I THINK I’M BECOMING WHO I’M MEANT TO BE.

HELLO NIGERIA,

We want a thriving Africa. We see Africa for what it is and the beauty it is. We see the potential and we want change for the better. I don't want to live in the US forever. I want to live in Nigeria. I want to be able to raise my children in Nigeria. Truth be told, I don’t want to live in any European or Western countries. I want Africa! I want Nigeria! I want there to be 24/7 electricity, good roads, a great educational system, a government that works for its people. We want a government that does not steal from it’s people. I want to be able to drive and not see children begging for money and food. I want my 15 minute ride to be 15-20 minutes and not 2 hrs. I want my kids to know that their brown/dark skin is beautiful. Please stop the lightening, bleaching and colorism. I want my female friends and I to be able to dress up, go to luxury restaurants and not get turned away simply because we are women. It should not be assumed that young, beautiful women are only prostitutes. I want to feel safe as a woman and not worry about being groped in public and then be told it’s my fault. I want more men to stand up for us. This is the Nigeria the youths see. The elders should seek more from the youth. They should ask us more questions. Kill the respectability politics and pride. African youths are shattering glass ceilings in all industries. Music, art, medicine, fashion, tech, engineering, etc. We chose to follow our dreams and the older generations just can’t seem to understand. They can’t understand how we are able to live out our dreams so freely and win while they were told it wasn’t possibly. They are frustrated. I want you all to understand that the same internal battle we fight our parents also fought. The only difference is they were taught to suppress it but our generation will not compromise. Unfortunately they were cheated out of having their own lives. They were lied to but we will not tolerate it. Our generation wants a better Nigeria. We see Africa at its fullest potential. We are simply tired of excelling in our various careers and fighting for a better image for Africa and going back to an Africa that doesn't match our hard work.

We want CHANGE!
